Job Search and Matching Questions

This FAQ section addresses common questions about how FindVil's job search automation, matching system, and job discovery features work.

How does FindVil find jobs?

FindVil uses AI-powered web aggregation technology to continuously scan job postings across the entire internet. The system pulls opportunities from major job platforms (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, Workday), company career pages directly, industry-specific job boards, and numerous other sources where employers post open positions.

This comprehensive aggregation happens continuously in the background. When your search criteria run on their scheduled frequency, FindVil's AI filters recently discovered jobs against your configured parameters and delivers relevant matches to your Matched Jobs page.

The exact methods and sources are proprietary technology that FindVil has developed, but the result is comprehensive coverage of available opportunities without you needing to manually check multiple websites daily.

Why am I seeing jobs I've already viewed on other sites?

This is actually a feature, not a problem. FindVil aggregates jobs from multiple sources, so you might see opportunities you've already encountered on LinkedIn, Indeed, or other platforms. Seeing these familiar jobs confirms that FindVil's comprehensive coverage is working—you're not missing opportunities that exist on other platforms.

The advantage is that FindVil provides a unified view of all opportunities in one place, eliminating the need to check multiple sites separately. You might also see jobs on FindVil that you missed during manual searches on other platforms, since FindVil's automated searches catch everything matching your criteria.

Additionally, FindVil shows you all available application methods for each job, so even if you first saw an opportunity on LinkedIn, you might choose to apply through the company website using the direct link FindVil provides.

Can I search for remote jobs specifically?

Yes. When configuring your search criteria, select the "Remote Jobs Only" option in the Location section. This filters your results exclusively to opportunities marked as remote, work-from-home, distributed team, location-independent, or similar designations indicating no fixed office requirement.

The AI understands various ways employers describe remote work and captures all relevant opportunities regardless of specific terminology used. You can also combine remote focus with other filters—remote jobs in specific industries, remote positions with certain salary ranges, or remote opportunities requiring specific skills.

How often do my searches run?

Search frequency depends on your plan level and your configuration choices within that plan. Free and pay-as-you-go users can set searches to run every 12 or 24 hours. Subscription plan users can increase frequency to every 6 hours or every 1 hour for near-real-time job discovery.

You configure the frequency for each search criterion individually when creating or editing it, so you can run your most important searches more frequently while running exploratory searches less often to manage credit consumption and notification volume.

Beyond automated schedules, you can manually trigger any search anytime using the "Find New Jobs" button on your Search Criteria page, immediately discovering new opportunities without waiting for the next scheduled run.

Can I stop my searches temporarily without deleting them?

Yes. Each search criterion has an active/inactive toggle on your Search Criteria page. Toggle a search to "inactive" or "paused" to stop it from running without losing your configuration.

Paused searches don't consume credits and don't generate new matches, but all your settings remain saved. Previously found jobs from that search remain in your Matched Jobs page. When you're ready to resume, simply toggle the search back to active, and it will begin running again on its scheduled frequency.

This pause functionality is valuable when you've accepted a position and want to stop searching without deleting all your configurations, when you want to temporarily focus on opportunities from specific searches while pausing others, or when you're low on credits and want to conserve them for only your highest-priority searches.

Why am I not seeing many matches?

Low match volume can result from several factors. Overly narrow criteria including very specific job titles, too many required keywords, restricted geographic scope, or rare skill combinations might limit results. Inactive markets where your field has fewer current openings can also contribute. If searches aren't running due to being paused, depleted credits preventing job fetches, or technical issues with your configuration, you won't see new matches.

To increase match volume, broaden your job title to include related roles, reduce the number of required keywords, expand geographic scope or enable remote option, lower any salary minimums if set too high, or verify your searches are active and have run recently.

If you're in a highly specialized niche, lower match volumes might be normal for your field. Consider whether your expectations align with realistic availability of opportunities in your specific area of expertise.

Why am I seeing irrelevant jobs?

Irrelevant matches despite configured criteria can occur for several reasons. Overly broad criteria with generic job titles, few keywords, or missing exclusions can let through unwanted results. Semantic matching might surface jobs that technically relate to your keywords but in different contexts than intended. Employers sometimes use misleading job titles or include numerous keywords to attract maximum applicants.

To improve match relevance, add exclusion keywords to filter out unwanted categories (exclude "senior" if you want mid-level, or exclude "sales" if you want technical roles). Use more specific job titles that precisely describe your target roles. Add more included keywords that must appear in relevant opportunities. Review and refine criteria regularly based on actual match quality you're observing.

Some irrelevant results are inevitable in any automated system—the goal is high relevance, not perfection. Use the hide function to remove clearly irrelevant jobs from your list and continue refining your criteria to minimize future irrelevant matches.

Can I search for jobs in multiple cities?

Yes, through two approaches. You can create separate search criteria for each target city, allowing you to configure each with city-specific preferences and keywords. This approach is valuable if you want different search parameters for different locations.

Alternatively, in some cases you might be able to configure a single search criterion with broader geographic scope that captures multiple cities—for example, searching by state or region rather than specific city if you're flexible about location within an area.

The multi-criteria approach is generally more effective because it gives you clear visibility into opportunity availability in each location and allows you to prioritize some locations over others in your review process.

What does "match confidence score" mean?

Match confidence scores represent how well a job opportunity aligns with your complete profile and search criteria. High-confidence matches (typically 80-100%) strongly align with multiple aspects of your criteria, meet most or all requirements, use relevant terminology, and likely represent opportunities where you'd be competitive.

Medium-confidence matches (60-80%) align well in some areas but miss others, while lower-confidence matches (below 60%) technically pass your filters but show weaker overall alignment.

These scores help you prioritize which opportunities deserve your immediate attention and tailored application effort. High-confidence matches are most likely to be good fits and generate positive responses, while lower-confidence matches may still be viable but require more careful evaluation.

Can I save searches to run later?

Yes. When you create a search criterion, you can save it in inactive/paused state. The configuration is preserved, but the search doesn't run or consume credits until you activate it. This is useful for preparing searches for different career scenarios, saving configurations you might want to use in the future, or building comprehensive search coverage that you activate selectively based on current priorities.

You can also duplicate existing searches using the "Copy" function in the ellipsis menu, creating variations of successful searches with minor adjustments for different purposes. This lets you build a library of search configurations you can activate and deactivate as needed.

Do I get notified when new jobs are found?

Email notification settings vary based on your preferences in account settings. You can typically configure notifications for new job matches, receiving immediate alerts, daily digest emails, or weekly summary reports depending on your preference.

You can also simply check your Matched Jobs page regularly to see new opportunities. The interface clearly indicates newly added jobs since your last visit, making it easy to identify what's new without relying solely on email notifications.

Customize notification settings based on how actively you're job searching—daily notifications might be valuable during intensive searching, while weekly summaries work well for passive monitoring of opportunities.

Can I search for part-time or contract work?

Yes. FindVil discovers opportunities of all employment types including full-time, part-time, contract, temporary, and internship positions. When reviewing matched jobs, use the Employment Type filter to focus on specific work arrangements that interest you.

You can also configure your search criteria to focus on specific employment types if you're exclusively seeking one arrangement. Add keywords related to your preferred type ("contract," "part-time," "freelance") and exclude terms related to types you don't want.

The platform handles all employment types equally—the AI matching works the same way regardless of whether opportunities are full-time salaried positions or contract engagements.

How do I know if a job is legitimate or a scam?

FindVil's AI applies filters to exclude obvious spam and fraudulent postings, but no automated system is perfect. Use these guidelines to identify potentially problematic opportunities:

Red flags include vague job descriptions with minimal detail, unrealistic compensation claims, requests for payment or personal financial information before hire, suspicious links to non-standard websites, and companies you can't find information about through Google or LinkedIn searches.

Green flags include specific, detailed job descriptions, listing on reputable company career pages, reasonable compensation aligned with market rates, clear contact information for legitimate company recruiters, and companies with established online presence and Glassdoor reviews.

If something feels suspicious, trust your instincts and skip that opportunity. Research companies thoroughly before applying, and never provide sensitive personal information (Social Security numbers, bank details, credit card information) before receiving and accepting an official job offer.

Can I search for jobs in languages other than English?

Yes. When configuring search criteria, you can set language preferences for job postings. Available options typically include English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and other major languages depending on markets FindVil serves.

Setting a language preference filters jobs to those posted in your selected language, though note that this reflects the language of the job posting itself—the actual job might require different language skills depending on the role and location.

For bilingual users, you might create separate search criteria for different languages, helping you discover opportunities in all markets where your language skills apply.

What if I'm seeing duplicate jobs?

FindVil's AI includes duplicate detection that consolidates the same job posted to multiple platforms into single listings with multiple application links. However, occasionally duplicates might slip through if they're posted with slightly different information across platforms.

If you notice what appears to be duplicate listings, check the job details carefully—they might actually be different positions with similar titles at the same company. If they're truly duplicates, hide one of them from your matched jobs list to clean up your view.

Over time, FindVil's duplicate detection continues improving through machine learning on aggregate data, making duplicate issues increasingly rare.
