Getting Started with FindVil - Your Complete Onboarding Guide
116 views 35 min read

Welcome to FindVil, the AI-powered platform that revolutionizes how you search for jobs and connect with career opportunities. This comprehensive guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get started—from creating your account to launching your first automated job search and setting up your professional profile. By the end of this guide, you'll be ready to leverage FindVil's full capabilities for your job search success.

Step 1: Creating Your FindVil Account

Your journey begins by creating a FindVil account. Visit https://findvil.com and you'll see the homepage with a prominent "Start Free With 10 Credits" button. Click this button to begin the registration process. Alternatively, you can click the "Sign In" button in the navigation bar if you're not logged in. Additionally, you can click the "Get Started Free" button if you don't currently have an acocunt with us. You'll be automatically redirected to the registration page.

Choose Your Registration Method

FindVil offers two convenient ways to create your account:

Email and Password Registration: Enter your email address (use one you check regularly, as this is how FindVil will communicate with you), create a strong password (at least 8 characters combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters), and verify your email address by clicking the confirmation link sent to your inbox.

Google Authentication: Click "Continue with Google" and select the Google account you want to use. Google will ask for your permission to share basic profile information with FindVil (typically your name and email address). After granting permission, your account is created automatically and you're logged in.

Both methods provide identical access to all FindVil features. Choose whichever is most convenient for you. You can even add the other authentication method later for additional flexibility.

Your Free Trial Begins

Upon creating your account, you receive 10 free credits to explore FindVil's AI-powered features. These credits allow you to test the platform genuinely before making any financial commitment. We'll discuss how to maximize these credits throughout this guide.

Step 2: Welcome to Your Dashboard

After registration, you land on your personalized Dashboard—your command center for all job search activities. Let's take a quick tour so you understand what you're seeing.

Understanding Your Dashboard

The Dashboard displays several key sections providing immediate insight into your job search activity. Don't worry that everything shows zeros or empty states right now—that's normal for a brand new account. As you use FindVil, this Dashboard will populate with valuable data.

Summary Cards at the top show four critical metrics: Total Jobs Found (how many opportunities your searches have discovered), Companies Hiring (the number of unique employers in your matched jobs), Active Searches (how many search criteria you have running), and Credit Remaining (your current credit balance and plan type).

Charts and Visualizations display your job discovery trends over time, salary distributions across opportunities, and top job locations. These become valuable once you have data flowing through your searches.

Job Recommendations will show high-confidence matches that the AI identifies as particularly strong fits for your profile—opportunities worth your immediate attention.

Recent Activities logs your search runs, credit usage, and document generation, providing transparency about what FindVil is doing in the background for you.

Recently Generated Documents shows your latest AI-created resumes and cover letters for quick access.

For now, most of these sections are empty because you haven't set up any searches yet. That's what we'll do next.

Step 3: Create Your First Search Criteria

This is the most important step in your FindVil setup. Search criteria are the foundation of FindVil's automation—they tell the AI what kinds of jobs to discover for you. Once configured, these searches run automatically at your specified frequency, continuously finding new opportunities even while you sleep.

Navigate to Search Criteria

Click "Search Criteria" in the main navigation menu. You'll see an empty list and a button to create your first search. FindVil offers two methods for creating search criteria—we strongly recommend the AI-assisted method for your first criterion.

Method 1: AI-Assisted Resume Upload (Recommended)

This is the fastest and most effective way to create your first search criterion. Click the option to create a search by uploading your resume. Click the upload area or drag and drop your resume file (PDF, Word, or text format). FindVil's AI will immediately begin processing your resume.

In approximately 30 seconds, the AI will have analyzed your resume using natural language processing to understand your experience, skills, and qualifications. It will automatically populate all search fields including appropriate job titles based on your experience, relevant keywords from your skills and background, suitable industries and categories, location preferences inferred from your information, and experience level matching your career stage.

This AI-generated configuration gives you an excellent starting point based on your actual professional background. However, you should review it carefully before activating.

Review and Refine Your AI-Generated Criterion

After the AI generates your search criterion, review each section:

Basic Information: Verify the search name and job title match what you're actually seeking. If the AI suggested "Software Engineer" but you prefer "Full-Stack Developer," change it to match your target role.

Location: Confirm the location settings match your current situation and preferences. If you've moved since your resume was created, update the location. Enable "Remote Jobs Only" if you're specifically seeking location-independent work.

Categories: Check that the selected industries align with your interests. Add or remove categories as appropriate for your target employers.

Keywords - Included: Review the skills and terms the AI extracted. These are critical for match quality—add any important skills or technologies you possess that the AI might have missed. Focus on 5-10 core competencies most relevant to your target roles.

Keywords - Excluded: This is where you proactively filter out unwanted job types. If you're mid-level, add "senior" and "principal" to avoid roles beyond your experience. If you want technical positions, exclude "sales" or "account management." If avoiding certain industries, add relevant exclusion terms. This exclusion list is powerful for improving match relevance.

Preferences: Adjust salary expectations if needed (though many jobs don't list salaries, so don't make this too restrictive), confirm the maximum job age (default is 30 days—jobs posted within the last month), set your search frequency (Free plan users can choose daily, once in two days or weekly; we'll start with daily), verify experience level and language preferences, and consider whether to exclude any specific job publishers (generally not recommended as it limits results).

Activate Your Search

Once you're satisfied with all parameters, save and activate your search criterion. This is crucial—saved but inactive criteria won't discover jobs. Ensure the toggle is set to "Active."

Method 2: Manual Configuration (Alternative)

If you prefer not to upload a resume yet or want to create a search from scratch, you can use the manual configuration method. This involves a step-by-step form where you input all search parameters yourself. While this gives you complete control, it takes more time and you might miss relevant keywords that the AI would have identified from your resume. We recommend starting with the AI-assisted method, then creating additional manual criteria later if needed for specialized searches.

Step 4: Trigger Your First Job Search

Now that your search criterion is active, it will run automatically on your specified schedule (daily if you chose that frequency). However, you don't need to wait—you can trigger an immediate manual search to start discovering opportunities right now.

Run Your First Search

On your Search Criteria page, find your newly created criterion. Look for the "Find New Jobs" button on the criterion card. Click this button to manually trigger an immediate search.

A "Running Task" panel will appear on the right side of your screen showing the progress of your search. You'll see how many jobs are being discovered in real-time. The search typically completes in 20-60 seconds depending on how many opportunities exist matching your criteria.

Understanding Credit Usage

This manual job fetch uses 2 of your 10 free credits. Don't worry—this is a worthwhile investment to immediately see what kinds of opportunities FindVil discovers for you. Your automated daily searches will also use 2 credits each time they run (unless you upgrade to a subscription plan, which includes unlimited free job fetches).

What Happens During a Search

While your search runs, FindVil's AI is working hard: scanning job postings across the entire web (LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, company career pages, and many other sources), filtering opportunities against your configured criteria (job titles, locations, keywords, experience level), eliminating spam and duplicate postings, calculating relevance scores for each match, and delivering results to your Matched Jobs page.

View Your Results

Once the search completes, click "Matched Jobs" in the main navigation. You should now see job opportunities that match your criteria! Even if you only see a few matches initially, that's normal—the real power comes from automated searches running daily, continuously adding new opportunities as they're posted online.

Step 5: Complete Your Professional Profile

Now that you have a search running and jobs flowing in, it's time to set up your professional profile. Your FindVil profile serves as a comprehensive professional showcase that recruiters can discover through the Talent Directory—think of it as your personal "About Me" page or portfolio website, but integrated into a platform where recruiters are actively seeking candidates.

Navigate to Profile

Click "Profile" in the main navigation. You'll see your Profile settings page with various sections to complete.

Quick Profile Creation via Resume Import

If you uploaded your resume earlier to create search criteria, you can use that same resume to instantly populate your profile. Look for the "Import from Resume" button and select your uploaded resume. In seconds, the AI will automatically populate your profile sections including professional summary, work experience with companies, titles, and dates, education and degrees, skills and competencies, and any certifications or awards mentioned in your resume.

This gives you a substantially complete profile that you can then refine and enhance. It's much faster than manually entering all information from scratch. Please note that if you created your search criterion manually and haven't uploaded a resume yet, you will still be able to upload a resume from the profile page when you click the "Import from Resume" button.

If You Prefer the Manual Approach

You may choose to fill out your profile sections individually. While this takes more time, it gives you complete control over how information is presented. Complete each section: Profile Summary (3-5 sentences describing who you are professionally and what you're seeking), Professional Information (current status, years of experience, industry, job titles you're interested in), Skills (both technical and soft skills), Work Experience (positions with descriptions and accomplishments), Education (degrees and institutions), and Certifications and Awards (credentials validating your expertise).

Why Your Profile Matters

Your completed profile serves multiple crucial purposes. It makes you discoverable to recruiters using FindVil's Talent Directory, provides a professional showcase beyond what fits in a traditional resume, demonstrates your personal brand and professional identity, and gives you a shareable professional URL you can include on LinkedIn, in email signatures, or on business cards.

Most importantly, FindVil is continuously developing partnerships with recruiters and running 24/7 advertising campaigns to attract hiring professionals to the platform. A complete, public profile positions you to benefit from this growing recruiter network—your profile becomes findable by employers actively seeking candidates with your background.

Step 6: Make Your Profile Public

A complete profile is valuable, but it only becomes discoverable when you make it public. By default, all profiles are private—you must explicitly choose to activate public visibility.

Toggle Your Profile to Public

In your Profile settings, look for the public/private toggle switch. This is typically near the top of the page or in a visibility settings section. Switch your profile from "Private" to "Public."

When your profile is public, it becomes visible in FindVil's Talent Directory where recruiters search for candidates. Recruiters can view your complete profile information, see your professional background and skills, and contact you directly about opportunities.

Profile Messaging Feature

An important benefit of public profiles is direct messaging. On your public profile page, there's a "Send Message" link that allows recruiters (and anyone viewing your profile) to send you messages directly via email. These messages go to the email address associated with your FindVil account, ensuring you never miss opportunities even if you're not actively checking the platform. This direct line of communication can generate inbound opportunities without any application effort on your part.

Understanding Recruiter Discovery

FindVil's Talent Directory allows recruiters to search for candidates using various filters including skills and technologies, experience levels, industries, job titles and roles, and locations or remote work preferences. When your profile matches a recruiter's search parameters, you appear in their results. Recruiters can save your profile with notes, tags, and status tracking (interested, contacted, assessment sent, interviewing, etc.) as they manage their talent pipeline.

Recruiters using FindVil have sophisticated tools including AI-powered search that extracts filters from job descriptions, saved search queries for repeated use, saved talent collections for pipeline management, and the ability to upload job descriptions and instantly find matching candidates. By having a public profile, you make yourself accessible to these professional recruiters who are actively seeking candidates like you.

Step 7: Customize Your Profile Appearance

Now that your profile is public, take a few minutes to customize its appearance so it reflects your professional brand and stands out in the Talent Directory.

Visual Customization Options

FindVil provides extensive customization capabilities. Choose a color theme (black, blue, yellow, pink, or other options) that reflects your personality while remaining professional. Select header colors or patterns that complement your theme. Upload a custom background image if desired (use subtle, professional images that don't distract from your content). Choose from several professional fonts like Poppins, Montserrat, or Open Sans. Toggle between Dark Mode and Light Mode based on your preference.

Arrange Your Sections

One of FindVil's most powerful profile features is drag-and-drop section reordering. You can arrange your profile sections in whatever order best tells your professional story. For example, if you're a recent graduate, you might place Education near the top. If you have extensive experience, lead with Work Experience. If you're changing careers, you might start with Skills to emphasize transferable capabilities.

Experiment with different arrangements to find what flow best showcases your strengths and guides recruiters through your story logically and compellingly.

Add Media Proofs

Upload up to 5 media items that provide visual evidence of your accomplishments including certificate images proving you completed specific training, portfolio samples showing your design, writing, or creative work, project screenshots demonstrating applications or systems you built, award photos or documents, or presentations you've delivered.

Visual evidence makes your profile more engaging and credible—showing rather than just telling about your accomplishments.

Upload a Professional Photo

Add a professional profile picture if appropriate for your industry and target market. In many countries and industries, resume photos are standard and expected. Choose a high-quality headshot where you're professionally dressed, well-lit with clear facial features, and presenting an approachable, confident expression.

Step 8: Share Your Profile

Once your profile is customized and public, you have a shareable professional URL that anyone can access.

Get Your Profile Link

Look for a "Share" button on your Profile page. Click it and you'll see your unique profile URL. Copy this link—it's your personal professional showcase page that you can share anywhere.

Strategic Profile Sharing

Use your FindVil profile URL strategically across your professional presence. Include it in your email signature alongside your contact information. Add it to your LinkedIn "About" section or "Featured" area. Include it on business cards or networking materials. Share it in professional networking conversations as an easy way for contacts to learn more about you. Reference it in job applications as a comprehensive supplement to your resume.

Your FindVil profile effectively replaces or supplements a personal website, giving you a professional online presence without the cost and complexity of building and maintaining a separate site.

Why This Matters

By making your profile public and sharing the link, you maximize your discoverability across multiple channels. Recruiters find you through FindVil's Talent Directory searches. Professional contacts can access your comprehensive background via the link you share. Potential employers researching you after applications can see a more complete picture than a resume alone provides.

This multi-channel visibility significantly expands your opportunities beyond just the jobs you actively apply to—you're creating passive opportunity generation working 24/7.

Step 9: Understanding Credits and Planning Your Usage

Now that you're set up and your first search is running, let's discuss credits—FindVil's currency for AI-powered services—and how to plan your usage strategically.

How Credits Work

Credits power FindVil's AI features. Different activities consume different amounts of credits: Job Fetch Operations (2 credits each time a search criterion runs), Resume Parsing (2-4 credits when you upload a resume for the AI to analyze), Tailored Resume Generation (2 credits to create a customized resume for a specific job), and Tailored Cover Letter Generation (2 credits to create a personalized cover letter).

Activities that don't consume credits include browsing matched jobs, viewing job details, managing search criteria, editing your profile, and downloading previously generated documents from your Resume Deck.

Your Free 10 Credits

You started with 10 free credits. If you followed this guide, you've used approximately 4 credits so far: 2 credits for resume parsing (when you uploaded your resume to create search criteria), and 2 credits for your manual job fetch. This leaves you with 6 credits remaining.

Strategic Use of Remaining Credits

Here's how to maximize your remaining free credits. From your Matched Jobs page, identify 2-3 opportunities that genuinely interest you. For each opportunity, click "Get Resume" to generate a tailored version (2 credits per resume). Review the generated resume and download it. For your top choice opportunity, also click "Get Cover Letter" to create a matching cover letter (2 credits).

This strategic approach uses your free credits to experience FindVil's complete workflow—automated job discovery, tailored resume generation, and personalized cover letter creation—giving you everything needed to submit high-quality applications to 2-3 opportunities.

After Free Credits Are Depleted

When your free credits run out, you'll need to purchase additional credits or subscribe to continue using AI features. Your search criteria will pause (they won't run automatically until you have credits again), and you won't be able to generate tailored documents. However, you can still browse existing matched jobs, access previously generated documents from your Resume Deck, manage your profile, and view all account settings.

Credit Options

FindVil offers two approaches to credits:

Pay-As-You-Go Credit Packs: Purchase credits as needed—Starter ($4.99), Power ($9.99), Professional ($19.99), or Enterprise ($32.50). Credits never expire and remain available until used. This works well for focused, time-limited job searches.

Subscription Plans: Pro ($14.99/month) or Enterprise ($29.99/month) subscriptions include monthly credit allocations that renew on your billing date, unlimited free job fetches (searches run without consuming credits), access to higher search frequencies (every 6 hours or even hourly), and reduced costs for document generation.

Subscriptions typically provide better value if you're running multiple search criteria frequently or applying to many positions monthly. Do the math based on your usage—if you would consistently purchase $15+ in credits monthly, a subscription probably makes sense.

Payment Security

All payments are processed through Stripe, the world's leading internet payment processor. Stripe maintains the highest level of payment industry security certification (PCI-DSS Level 1). FindVil never stores your complete credit card numbers—Stripe securely handles all financial data using bank-level encryption. Your payment information is 100% safe when using FindVil.

Step 10: What Happens Next

You're now fully set up on FindVil with a search criterion running automatically, a complete public profile discoverable by recruiters, and an understanding of how to use your credits strategically. Here's what you can expect going forward.

Daily Job Discovery

Your active search criterion will run automatically on its scheduled frequency (daily if that's what you set). Each time it runs, new jobs matching your criteria will appear in your Matched Jobs page. You'll receive email notifications about new matches based on your notification preferences.

Check your Matched Jobs page regularly—ideally daily—to review new opportunities. Use the filtering options to focus on recent postings, specific employment types, or other parameters that matter to you.

Applying to Opportunities

When you find jobs you want to apply to, use FindVil's AI to generate tailored documents. Click "Get Resume" and select your uploaded resume as the foundation (this doesn't consume additional parsing credits—your resume is already in the system from earlier). Optionally add instructions for the AI about what to emphasize. Generate the tailored resume (2 credits). Review it for accuracy and download it. Generate a matching cover letter using the same process (2 credits).

Apply to the opportunity through the application link provided on the job detail page (jobs often have multiple application options—LinkedIn, Indeed, company website, etc.). Choose your preferred method. After submitting your application, return to FindVil and mark the job as "Applied" to track your activity.

Recruiter Discovery

With your public profile, recruiters searching the Talent Directory may discover you and reach out directly. These inbound opportunities can happen without any active application effort on your part—recruiters find you, review your profile, and contact you via the messaging feature if they have relevant opportunities.

Check the email associated with your FindVil account regularly for messages from recruiters. Respond promptly to express interest or to politely decline if opportunities don't fit.

Ongoing Optimization

Your initial search criterion is just the starting point. Over the next few weeks, monitor the quality and quantity of matches you receive. If you're seeing too many irrelevant jobs, refine your criteria by adding exclusion keywords or adjusting parameters. If you're seeing very few matches, consider broadening your job title, reducing keyword requirements, or expanding location scope.

You can create additional search criteria targeting different role types, locations, or industries. Multiple focused searches often work better than one very broad search.

Update your profile as you gain new skills, complete certifications, or have accomplishments to add. An current profile ensures maximum relevance when recruiters search.

Building Your Application Pipeline

As matched jobs accumulate, develop a systematic approach. Use the "Like" or "Favorite" function to flag interesting opportunities during quick browsing sessions. Later, filter to show only favorited jobs and give them thorough evaluation. Generate tailored documents in batches for multiple opportunities during dedicated application sessions. Mark jobs as applied to maintain clear records of your active applications.

This systematic approach prevents overwhelm while ensuring you don't miss strong opportunities in the flow of daily matches.

Getting Support When Needed

If you encounter questions or issues, FindVil provides comprehensive support. Browse help articles in our Help Desk covering all platform features and common questions. Contact support at support@findvil.com with any questions—include "Support Inquiry" in the subject line. Use the contact form on our Help Desk page (https://findvil.com/helpdesk) this form is available even if you're not logged in. Check "My Tickets" to view and manage all your support requests.
